About the Project

SCDOT proposes to replace the S-250 (Hester Store Road) bridge over Machine Creek in Pickens County, SC. The proposed bridge will consist of two twelve-foot travel lanes in each direction. It is anticipated that the bridge will be constructed on existing alignment. To address immediate traffic concerns with the existing bridge closure, SCDOT has demolished the existing bridge and installed a temporary bridge. This allows time for the permanent replacement design to be completed while providing immediate relief to the traveling public. Once construction for the permanent bridge is approved, the temporary bridge would be replaced with a new two-lane bridge. While the permanent bridge is being constructed, a temporary detour route will re-established.

Purpose and Need

The purpose of the project is to provide a structurally safe and sound transportation route over Machine Creek that meets current design and safety standards.

Due to deterioration and poor conditions, the current bridge was closed to all traffic and needs to be replaced. The bridge was closed and demolished using state funds and temporary access was provided using state funds.

Detour

The detour route recommended is to utilize Jim Hunt Road (S-39-305), Farrs Bridge Road (SC-183), and Old Dacusville Road (L-437). This detour route results in approximately 2.4 miles of additional mileage for the detoured motorists. Local citizens may take their preferred route of open roads. Please refer to the map to see the signed detour route.
