About the Project
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) proposes to replace the bridge along S-52 (Lanham Rd) over Horn Creek in Edgefield County. The original structure was closed in 2022, then removed. This project will place a bridge structure in the same location as the original bridge. The original S-52 facility was comprised of two, 10-foot travel lanes with approximately 4-foot paved shoulders. The proposed roadway section will maintain these lane and shoulder widths. The project is part of SCDOT’s Strategic Plan to greatly reduce the number of closed and load restricted bridges in the State of South Carolina
Purpose and Need
The purpose of the project is to place a bridge where the original bridge over Horn Creek was located, which will improve the mobility for the community surrounding the location.
Detour
The signed detour route is about 14.5 miles, and has been in place since the bridge was closed. Local citizens may take their preferred route. Refer to the map to see the signed detour route.
Project Funding
The project will use federal funds allocated for improving the condition of South Carolina’s Roads and Bridges. The project is currently estimated to be approximately $7,600,000.00.
